An example of KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid!)
One of my suggestions for colouring for the exercises
and I have been doing.
Four ways I could have approached this:
1) Coloured it like I normally would
2) Coloured like Mignola would have it done
3) Coloured like Mignola's watercolour work
4) Cell shade it
Well, I wound up doing #4. It let me really mess around with colour values, and I wound up using some very saturated colours for a pop arty effect, while at the same time managing to keep the colour and value focus where it needed to be. It kinda reminds of the work that
does... Well, kinda...
I probably should have coloured it like #2, though... Ah, well.
Awesome lineart, btw, by Joshua Covey. The original lineart can be found here
, and he's got some more awesomely done Hellboy pieces in his gallery that you need to check out.
